Medicare beneficiaries, take note! The Annual Election Period (AEP) is right around the corner, beginning October 15 and running through December 7. This is the time each year when you can review your current coverage and make changes for the upcoming year. With some projected cost increases in 2026, it is more important than ever to take a close look at your Medicare plan and ensure it still fits your health care needs and budget.
Projected Cost Changes for 2025
Some Medicare costs are expected to rise slightly next year:
- The Part B monthly premium is projected to increase to $206.50, an 11.6 percent increase from the previous year.
- The Part B deductible is also expected to go up, reaching $288.
- For those enrolled in Medicare Part D, the out-of-pocket cap for prescription drugs will increase to $2,100, indexed from the $2,000 cap set for 2025.
- The maximum Part D deductible will rise to $615, up from this year’s $590.
- In addition, the base beneficiary premium for Part D plans is estimated at $38.99.
Why Reviewing Your Plan Matters
Even small cost increases can add up over time, especially for those on a fixed income. This is why AEP is such a valuable opportunity. It allows beneficiaries to compare different plans, review changes to their existing coverage, and ensure they are not paying more than necessary for care or prescriptions. Many plans update their provider networks, formularies, and benefits each year, so what worked for you in 2025 may not be the best option in 2026.
