California employers that offer Health Net Group Health insurance have an important transition ahead. Health Net has announced that it is withdrawing from the California Small Group and Large Group medical markets. Affected group plans will need to move to another health insurance carrier by February 28, 2027, with the transition taking effect as of March 1, 2027.
The announcement does not affect Health Net’s Medicare, Medi-Cal, Marketplace or Individual and Family lines of business. This change specifically concerns commercial Small Group and Large Group medical coverage.
Don’t Wait Until Your Deadline
For employers currently enrolled with Health Net, this is not a reason to panic, but it is a reason to start planning. Choosing a new group health plan involves more than comparing monthly premiums. Employers should consider the doctors and hospitals employees rely on, prescription coverage, deductibles, copays, out-of-pocket costs and the healthcare needs of their workforce.
Starting the process early gives you more time to evaluate different carriers and plan designs. It also gives your broker an opportunity to investigate provider networks and identify potential disruptions for employees who are receiving ongoing treatment or have established relationships with specific healthcare providers.
Your Employees Are Counting on You
A change in health insurance can create uncertainty for employees. They may have questions about whether their doctors will remain in-network, whether their prescriptions will be covered and how their costs could change under a new plan.
Careful preparation can make the transition much easier. Rather than waiting until your current coverage is nearing its end, use the coming months to review your options and determine what makes the most sense for your company and your employees.
